Manifesto

The New York Nineteenth Century Society promotes the study and understanding of life in 19th-century New York City. Its members are historians, scholars, authors, reenactors, artists, and philosophers, united by their desire to experience a closer connection with the past.

The Society encourages academically responsible research, educational events, and contemporary works inspired by the 19th-century. Emphasis is placed on projects that use experiential methods and public participation to synthesize past and present.

Members of the Society collaborate, share resources, and support each other’s individual work; competition and proprietorship are strongly discouraged.
